juxtaposition
noun
the fact of two things being seen or placed close together with contrasting effect: the juxtaposition of these two images.

After receiving a BFA in fashion design from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, I took a turn and entered the world of commercial photography. I’ve been a fashion/prop stylist, producer and art director ever since. I’ve always kept a camera of one sort or another close at hand. As I go out and explore the world… I never know what’s around the next corner, and that’s what makes it so exciting!

The images I’m presenting here are produced by completely different means. The sepia images were taken with a cheap plastic camera called a Holga, that requires real medium format film… held together with black electrical tape to minimize light leaks. Yet the light leaks and the low quality lens give the imagery a romantic quality. The color images were taken with my iPhone 7Plus. I like the “juxtaposition” of old & new technology, each with their own unique way of translating what I find interesting.

I leave you with a couple of favorite quotes:

“Depth of feeling is more important than depth of field.” - W. Eugene Smith

“A good photograph is knowing where to stand.” - Ansel Adams
