Artist Statement, 2018

I was born in Rhode Island in 1963, growing up I had love of drawing and exploring natural spaces from the nearby ocean and surrounding New England Woods.

I moved to Washington, DC attending the Corcoran School of Art and Design, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1987. Later I attended the University of Colorado at Denver and completed a Masters in Architecture in 1995.

While in in the Washington DC area. I was a Printer at the Handprint Studio International in Arlington, Virginia and Moscow, Russia. There I worked with Dennis O’Neil on limited edition artist prints in both intaglio and serigraph printing. While in DC I exhibited in few group shows and produced freelance illustrations.

I love the printmaking - especially the intaglio process. To quote Skip Barnhart a Professor at the Corcoran and George Washington University “Any way you can make a mark, you can make a print”. Currently I am creating Monotypes / Collagraphs. For me this allows for a process between the materials and compositional impulses similar to painting. Using a variety of intaglio techniques and materials I create prints in series not editions by manipulating marks, patterns and colors. I experiment with a variety of inking techniques to play with compositions and extend an idea or color scheme from one pull of a print to the next.

I continue to produce watercolors, paintings and hand printed images while pursuing a professional Architecture Career in Denver Colorado.
